Your Benefits Enrollment Checklist

On this page, you’ll find the Benefits Enrollment Checklist to ensure timely enrollment in benefits. You New Hire Benefits event in Workday must be submitted within 31 days of your start date, or your benefit elections will default, based on your employee classification.

Please open a Help Case in Workday if you have any questions.

  • Review plan options to determine coverage.
  • Some Employee Life plan options with higher coverage amounts may require additional information or Evidence of Insurability to determine enrollment eligibility through the Hartford.
  • If you elect Life coverage with a higher coverage amount, the appropriate form to provide evidence of insurability before submitting your elections. If evidence of insurability is not received with your benefit elections, the highest allowable amount will be selected for you.
  • Spouse Life coverage cannot exceed the amount of employee Life coverage. Evidence of insurability may be required if you enroll or increase coverage over $50,000. Follow instructions from the Hartford to provide evidence of insurability.
  • Review plan options to select your coverage:
  • Determine the total annual amount you would like to contribute to each FSA. Workday will show you the per paycheck amount to expect to pay based on that annual election.
  • Reminder: These elections must be renewed during Open Enrollment to continue contributions for the following year, otherwise, they will cease at the end of the current year.

Confirm all benefit elections have been captured and submitted through your Workday event within 31 days of your hire date. Please note, by submitting this benefit event, you attest that all information entered is true, accurate, and complete to the best of your knowledge, including information related to dependents and beneficiaries. 
 
You can open a Help Case in Workday if you run into any issues. Go to Workday Home > Menu > Help > Create Case

Other Important Things to Know

You’ll often hear positions at UNS referred to as Classified/Union. Classified positions are represented by a union. 

You’ll often hear positions at UNS referred to as Unclassified/Salaried. Unclassified means the position is not represented by a union.

Benefit deductions will be withheld starting with your second paycheck, assuming you have submitted your New Hire benefit event in Workday.
