Qualifying life events let you update your benefits outside Open Enrollment.
Life changes and your benefits can, too. Certain qualifying life events, such as getting married, welcoming a child, or gaining or losing other coverage, allow you to update your benefits outside of Open Enrollment. You’ll need to request your changes within 31 days of the event.
The rules for qualifying life events are set by IRS guidelines. The benefit changes you can make depend on the life event and must be related to that event. You must submit your event in Workday within 31 days of the event for your changes to take effect.
Add your new child to your plan and make other related coverage changes.
Add dependents to your plan, enroll in coverage, or drop coverage if you enroll in your spouse’s plan.
Remove your former spouse from your benefits, or enroll yourself or eligible dependents if you lose coverage through your spouse.
Remove the dependent from your benefits and change your coverage level, if applicable.
Enroll in, change, or end coverage if the change affects your or your dependents’ benefit eligibility.
Enroll yourself or eligible dependents in a plan after losing other coverage, or drop coverage if you gain coverage elsewhere.
Enroll in, drop, or change certain benefits when you or an eligible dependent gains or loses eligibility.
Change coverage if your move causes you or an eligible dependent to gain or lose access to a health plan. A change of address alone does not qualify.
Remember to enroll your baby in your benefits within 31 days of their birth. Coverage isn’t automatic, so taking action by the deadline is important.
Log in to Workday to open your life event and request a change in benefits by submitting your event within 31 days.
