Financial Protection

Disability

Income protection if an illness or injury keeps you from working.

Disability benefits can help protect your income if an illness or injury keeps you from working. Coverage and eligibility may vary, so refer to the Benefits at a Glance for group-specific information and contact The Hartford with additional questions about your benefits.

Income protection

Short Term Disability (STD)

STD provides income protection if you’re unable to work due to a covered illness or injury. Benefits may continue for up to 13 weeks.

Supplemental Buy-Up STD

For additional income protection, you may elect to purchase Supplemental Buy-Up STD coverage, which can provide benefits for the next 13 weeks after STD ends. You must elect this coverage in Workday during Open Enrollment or within 31 days of a qualifying life event.

Salary Continuance

Salary Continuance may also be available to certain employee groups. Open a Workday Help Case with questions about whether this benefit applies to you.

Longer-term protection

Long Term Disability (LTD)

If a covered illness or injury keeps you from working for a longer period, LTD can provide continued income protection after Short Term Disability benefits end.

Disability Coverage Details

Eligibility, benefit amounts and other plan rules apply; contact The Hartford for details about your coverage.

Important: Disability Benefits & Leave

Disability benefits and a leave of absence often work together, but they aren’t the same thing. Disability benefits provide income replacement, while a leave of absence addresses your time away from work. If you need more than two weeks off due to an illness, injury or other qualifying reason, visit the Leaves of Absence page to learn about available leave options and what you need to do.
