Benefits Eligibility

Employees

As an active, full-time employee working at least 32 hours per week, you are eligible for the full range of employee benefits. If you are scheduled to work 31 hours per week or less, you are eligible for the medical plans, Health Savings Account (HSA), and Health Care or Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs). 

Dependents

You may enroll your eligible dependents in many of the same plans you choose for yourself. Eligible dependents include:

  • Your legal spouse
  • Your natural, adopted, or stepchildren, as follows:
    • Medical: Up to age 26
    • Dental/Vision:
      • TEP Classified: Up to age 19 (age 23 for full-time students)
      • Unclassified/UEG 1116: Up to age 26
      • UEE 387/769: Up to age 19 (age 26 for full-time students)

Enrolling & Making Changes

Your benefit choices remain in effect for the entire plan year. You have three opportunities to enroll in or make changes to your benefits:

  1. Within 30 days of hire
  2. During the annual Open Enrollment period
  3. Within 30 days of a qualified change in family status, such as:
    • Marital status change
    • Birth or adoption of a child
    • Loss or gain of other health coverage for you and/or dependents

Paying for Your Benefits

UNS provides credits to spend on your Medical, Dental, Life, and Long-Term Disability benefits. The cost of your benefits will depend on the coverages you elect. Remember, you are responsible for considering your needs for the plan year and choosing benefits for your situation.
