The company provides comprehensive coverage through Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D), Life, and Disability insurance to help safeguard you and your loved ones. These benefits offer financial security in the event of unexpected circumstances, ensuring peace of mind for you and your family.
UNS believes it’s important to stay positive and prepare financially in the event of an accident or accidental death. Most employees are provided with AD&D insurance at no cost, although the amount provided varies. Please refer to your Benefit Guide or Collective Bargaining Agreement for more information.
Voluntary Personal Accident insurance allows UES employees to buy additional AD&D insurance for yourself and your family members. Benefits are paid if a covered person dies or loses a limb or sight due to an accident.
Eligible employees may choose a benefit amount in increments of $10,000 up to 10 times their annual pay or $500,000. For example, if you make $30,000 annually, you can buy up to $300,000 of coverage. Coverage is paid for with after-tax dollars. You do not need to provide Evidence of Insurability; however disabled dependents are not eligible for coverage.
In addition to AD&D coverage, all employees may buy Voluntary Life insurance at group rates for yourself, your spouse, and your children. Guaranteed issue coverage is available if you apply when initially eligible for coverage. For any amount over the guaranteed issue limits, Evidence of Insurability (EOI) is required. You must be enrolled in order to enroll your spouse, domestic partner, or children. Review your benefits guide or plan summaries for coverage options.
UNS offers an opportunity to buy Long-Term Disability coverage, or an “income protection plan”. This coverage replaces a portion of your income if you’re too sick or injured to work and earn a paycheck. Benefits are reduced by other sources of disability income, such as Social Security and Workers’ Compensation. Specific benefit levels, including the elimination period, may vary. Claims may be filed through The Hartford. See your benefit guide for more information.
